Academic Jobs in Saudi Arabia & the Gulf: Career Coaching

For academics and engineers in Europe and South Asia who want a faculty or postdoc post in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait. I moved from a research career in Germany to a faculty post in Saudi Arabia in 2026, and I coach you through the same move.

Who this is for

This is for researchers who are seriously considering an academic job in the Gulf and want to approach it properly rather than sending CVs into the dark. Typical clients are postdocs and lecturers in Europe, PhD graduates finishing abroad, and faculty in South Asia looking for a stronger research environment or a better package.

What we work on

We work on the four stages of the move: choosing where to apply, preparing documents that suit Gulf hiring committees, interviews and offers, and your first months after arrival. You choose how much support you need at each stage.

Where to apply Which countries, institution types and ranks fit your profile, where posts are advertised, and how the hiring process usually runs.
Documents for Gulf committees A CV, cover letter and teaching statement that put teaching, accreditation work and funded projects where committees look first.
Interviews and offers Mock interviews, and the questions to ask before you sign: contract type, rank, allowances, housing, schooling and renewal.
Your first 90 days Paperwork, housing, family logistics and settling into the department, based on my own first two weeks.

Why me

I spent nine years in research at TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany and moved to a faculty post in Saudi Arabia in 2026. I know what changes in the move, what committees in the Gulf ask about, and which questions I wish I had asked earlier. Most advice on this comes from recruiters or from people who have only seen one side.

How it works

  1. Tell me what’s going on. Where you are now, where you want to go, and your timeline. I reply within two working days.
  2. Mobility Roadmap session. A 60-minute video call about your profile and targets. I read your CV beforehand.
  3. Written plan. Within five working days: target institutions, documents to rework, who to approach and when, and a timeline.
  4. Your choice. Carry out the plan yourself, or continue with me through applications, interviews and the offer.

What I do and don’t do

  • This is career coaching, not placement. Recruitment in Saudi Arabia is licensed by the Ministry of Human Resources, and I am not a recruiter.
  • I take no fee that depends on you being hired, and I don’t forward CVs to employers.
  • I don’t quote salary figures. Packages vary by institution and rank, and I show you how to ask about them.
  • I don’t coach candidates for posts at my own university.
  • Contract and residency questions go to the employer’s HR or a qualified lawyer.

Common questions

Can you get me a job at a Saudi or Gulf university?

No. I coach you through the process, but hiring decisions belong to the universities. In Saudi Arabia, recruitment is a licensed activity, so I don’t act as a recruiter, I don’t forward CVs for a fee, and nothing I charge depends on whether you are hired.

Do I need postdoc experience to apply for a faculty post?

Not always. Many universities expect it, but applicants with substantial teaching experience, funded projects or a strong publication record are sometimes considered for assistant professor posts directly. Which route fits you depends on your profile, and that is one of the first things we work out.

What salary should I expect?

It varies by institution, rank, contract type and allowances, so any single number would mislead you. What I cover is how to read an offer, which components to ask about, and how to compare offers fairly.

Do you help with the move itself?

Yes, as part of the coaching. Once you have an offer, we go through the questions to ask before signing and a plan for your first months: paperwork, housing, family and settling into the department. Contract and residency questions go to the employer’s HR or a lawyer.

Can you coach me for a post at your own university?

No. I don’t coach candidates for posts at my own university. For other institutions in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, I’m glad to help.
