Custom Digital Courses & Workshops

Onboarding a new PhD student to DAMASK, or a whole department to structured scientific writing, takes a senior researcher's time you do not have to spare. Bespoke workshops built around your team's own software and data — taught by someone who has taught this publicly for years.

Who this is for

Research groups bringing new PhD students up to speed on DAMASK or ABAQUS without burning a senior researcher's time repeating the same onboarding. Industrial teams building an in-house crystal plasticity or texture analysis capability. Departments wanting a structured scientific writing module their students can actually use.

What a workshop covers

Crystal plasticity for beginners From constitutive theory fundamentals to a first working DAMASK model — built around your team's actual material system.
DAMASK workflow training Setup, calibration, RVE construction, and result interpretation — the practical workflow, not just theory.
ABAQUS forming & thermo-mechanical Process simulation setup, yield calibration, and thermo-mechanical coupling for forming and AM applications.
MTEX texture analysis EBSD data cleanup, ODF calculation, and pole figure generation in MTEX, built around your own datasets.
AI tools for research Practical use of AI tools in literature review, coding, and writing workflows for research teams.
Scientific writing workshops Group format of the "How to Write a Lot" course — structure, argumentation, and sustainable writing habits.

Why me

1digital course: "How to Write a Lot"
39+publications informing the technical curriculum

I have taught this material publicly for years — DAMASK case studies, ABAQUS tutorials, and writing strategy, all shared openly on YouTube. A commissioned workshop takes that same teaching and points it at your team's specific software, materials, and open questions, with the live interaction and follow-up a video cannot provide.

Dr. Qayyum’s scientific writing workshop was a career-defining experience. He turned what felt like an overwhelming task into a structured, learnable skill. My confidence in writing and presenting research results improved dramatically. — Fariha Mukhtar, Maintenance Reliability Specialist, Tetra Pak, Sweden

How it works

  1. 15-minute call. Describe your team, their current level, and what capability or outcome the workshop should build.
  2. Scoped design. Single-session workshops, multi-day series, or ongoing training cadence — format and content agreed before scheduling.
  3. Delivery. Live sessions (remote or in-person), built around your team's own software versions and, where possible, their own data.

Common questions

Can a workshop use our own data instead of examples?

Yes, and it is the more effective format — agreed during scoping so the content is built around what your team will actually use afterward.

Do you offer single sessions or only full courses?

Both. A single focused session (e.g. "DAMASK RVE construction from your EBSD data") is common, as is a multi-day onboarding series for new team members.

Is remote delivery available?

Yes — most workshops run remotely; in-person delivery is possible for larger engagements where travel is warranted.

How is this different from your free YouTube content?

The YouTube library is free and general. A commissioned workshop is built around your team's specific software, materials, and questions, with live interaction and follow-up.

Can you run the scientific writing workshop for a whole department?

Yes — the group format based on "How to Write a Lot" and the Writing Club model scales to department size; see scientific writing coaching for the individual-coaching version of the same material.
